It is positive to see that Tesco has become the first grocer in Northern Ireland to install EV charging infrastructure, with plans to install points in a further 10 stores this year. The points provide free charging to customers and have provided nearly 5,000 miles of power since opening in December.
We believe supermarket sites like these may experience an increase in electricity demand from EV charging, particularly with Tesco having pledged to have a fully electric delivery vehicle fleet by 2028. Rooftop solar systems on supermarket sites could be a complementary technology to EV charging, providing renewable energy to meet any increased demand.
